New Year's Eve is one of the biggest nights of the year on our network.
It will be busy, so plan your travel to and from the event before leaving home.
Free travel
Travel will be free across our SEQ network from 8pm on Tuesday 31 December until 5:30am on Wednesday 1 January.
If you're travelling before 8pm our normal fare and travel conditions apply.
Trains
There'll be major timetable changes on all lines due to the December and January extended track closures.
On Wednesday 1 January, services will run to a public holiday timetable.
Getting there
Ferry changes
CityCat and CityHopper services are very popular on New Years. If you are planning to travel via ferry, please travel early to avoid disappointment.
CityCats will run approximately every 15 minutes until about 1am.
KittyCats and Kangaroo Point Cross River services will run until about 2am.
QUT ferry terminal
Due to its location near the firework barges, QUT Gardens Point terminal will be closed from 3pm until last service.
The terminal will reopen on Monday 1 January.
Getting home
There will be extra services following both sets of fireworks.
Check out the following information to plan your trip home.
Extra buses
Buses will run to a weekday timetable with extra services provided.
City Glider services will operate throughout the night:
- Route 60 (Blue Glider) -
- Teneriffe to West End
- Route 61 (Maroon Glider)
- Ashgrove to Coorparoo Junction
Extra trains
Extra trains will run after both the family fireworks and midnight fireworks, between:
- 7:45pm and 9:15pm
- every 15 minutes - Caboolture, Ferny Grove, Ipswich, Kippa-Ring, Springfield Central, Shorncliffe and Cleveland lines
- every 20 minutes - Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines
- one extra service - Doomben, Rosewood and North Coast lines
- 12:15am and 1:45am
- every 15 minutes - Caboolture, Ferny Grove, Ipswich, Kippa-Ring, Springfield Central, Shorncliffe and Cleveland lines
- every 20 minutes - Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines
- one extra service - Doomben, Rosewood and North Coast lines

A modified timetable will operate to accommodate firework displays and patronage demand so please plan your journey.
- CityCats will run approximately every 15 minutes until about 1am.
- KittyCats and Kangaroo Point Cross River services will run until about 2am.
- QUT Gardens Point ferry terminal will be closed from 4pm and reopen on Wednesday 1 January.
