The Smart Ticketing project has reached a new milestone this week, with new contactless payment methods now available across the entire Redlands region. The launch on Transdev Queensland buses, and Southern Moreton Bay Island (SMBI) ferries means that customers travelling in the Redlands can now pay for all train, bus, and ferry trips in this region using contactless Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit or debit cards. This includes cards in the digital wallet of smartphones, smart watches and other wearable devices.
While Brisbane River ferry customers have had the option to use Smart Ticketing payment methods onboard since April 2024, the launch on SMBI ferries on 10 December marks another milestone, with Smart Ticketing now available across the entire South East Queensland (SEQ) ferry network.
With three modes of transport fully enabled with Smart Ticketing, the remaining six bus operators will continue to be progressively activated in the coming months. With more than 140,000 trips being taken on buses since August 2024, and more than 730,000 trips on ferries, customers have easily adapted to using Smart Ticketing payment methods across both modes.
Despite no longer needing a go card in the Redlands region, if customers are transferring to a remaining bus operator that is not yet participating in the Smart Ticketing trial, they will need to continue to use their go card at this time.
