Five new electric buses have arrived in Cairns ahead of their introduction to the city's public transport network next month.
The new buses will run Translink services across the city and are each expected to save as much as 1,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases over their lifespan and reduce noise pollution.
Their arrival in north Queensland builds on the State Government's commitment that every new bus in South East Queensland will be zero emission from 2025, with regional implementation to begin between 2025 and 2030.
Additional steps towards that target are also being taken following the launch of five electric buses on the Sunshine Coast in June and the introduction of 10 electric buses on the Gold Coast in the coming weeks.
The buses are undergoing final testing before they begin services in Cairns.
