From Monday 26 May, enjoy better bus services with new route 861 and improvements for route 860

Together, these services will deliver three trips per hour between Whitsunday Plaza and Jubilee Pocket seven days week.

To make it easier to catch the bus, we’ve partnered with Whitsundays Regional Council to build 12 new bus stops in Cannonvale, Jubilee Pocket and south-east Proserpine. Although some stops are under construction, you’ll still be able to hail your bus from these locations.

The package of changes will deliver:

  • improved service frequency and operating hours
  • route extensions and new stops for growth areas
  • better access to bus services and key destinations.

Use our journey planner to see where and when you can travel!

We're launching a new bus service (route 861) connecting Whitsunday Plaza and Jubilee Pocket, providing much needed coverage for this high demand area.

For the first time, communities in Cannonvale and Jubilee Pocket will have direct access to public transport.

Route 861 buses will run hourly from 6:25am to 9:53pm seven days a week, giving you access to 217 new trips a week.

You’ll be able to catch route 861 at 30 existing route 860 bus stops (between Whitsunday Plaza and Jubilee Pocket) plus six new ones at:

  • Abell Road at Parker Road (toward Whitsunday Plaza)
  • Abell Road at Parker Road (toward Jubilee Pocket)
  • Valley Drive (toward Whitsunday Plaza)
  • Valley Drive (toward Jubilee Pocket)
  • Jubilee Pocket Road at Penticost (both directions)
  • Jubilee Pocket Road at Sabel (both directions)

Route and stop changes

  • Growing residential areas in south-eastern Proserpine will enjoy direct access to public transport, with route 860 realigned to travel via Fuljames Street and Renwick Road.
  • Proserpine primary and secondary students can continue to travel directly to and from school, as the 7:54am trip from Shute Harbour and 3pm trip from Proserpine will be maintained along Ruge Street.
  • Your journey will be quicker and more direct, with the removal of infrequently serviced stops on Beach Road and Coral Esplanade in Cannonvale. You’ll still be able to access this location via route 860 and walking a short distance from the nearby bus stops on Shute Harbour Road.
  • We’re improving safety and making your network more efficient by closing the Blair Street stop and building a new stop on Fuljames Street (about 300 metres away). This means buses won’t have to turn right across traffic.

Timetable changes

  • To help you get where you need to go, the service will start 36 minutes earlier on weekdays (departing from Fuljames Street at 5:19am instead of Orchid Road at 5:55am) and all trips will travel via Whitsundays Plaza - making it easy to get to and from the shops.
  • Your simpler timetable will be easier to read, and you’ll notice minor changes for departure and arrival times to align with the improved 860 route.

Please use our journey planner to see how your travel will be affected.
