New Year's is one of the busiest nights of the year on our network, so please plan your travel ahead of time to avoid unnecessary delays.

Extra services

There will be plenty of additional trains running after the family and midnight fireworks, then into the early morning.

Early morning - 2:30am onwards

After 2:30am, there will be one train per hour on each line (except Doomben and Airport) until the first normal service on New Year's Day. 

Getting into South Bank

All services will be running to a normal Wednesday timetable, with route M1, 222 and 333 travelling into Brisbane City running at a higher frequency between 6pm and 9pm.

After the fireworks

After the 7:45pm and midnight fireworks, the following routes will run additional services for approximately 90 minutes: 

Please note, these extra trips may not show up in journey planner due to running 'as required' by our event operations team. 

Late night services

Late night and Nightlink buses will running until the sun comes up. 

  • Metro M1 and M2 will run every 15 minutes after 1:30am.
  • CityGliders
    • Blue CityGlider 60 will run every 15 minutes from 1am.
    • Maroon CityGlider 61 wil run every 30 minutes from 1:20am.
  • Nightlink services will have double frequency with services departing every 30 minutes (normally hourly); except N310 and N250 which are unchanged. 

There will be extra ferries running on the Brisbane River on New Year's Eve.

Ferries are very popular when there's fireworks about, so please allow yourself plenty of time when travelling. 

Please note, ferries will be suspended around the South Bank area during the fireworks for safety. QUT Gardens Point ferry terminal will be closed from 3pm until last service due to its proximity to the fireworks barges. 

F1 CityCat

There will be extra CityCats running after the midnight fireworks. Services will run approximately every 15 minutes until approximately 2am.

    • To UQ Lakes - 2:28am
  • Riverside
    • To Northshore Hamilton - 2:08am
    • To UQ Lakes - 2:17am

F22 Sydney Street - Dockside

Extra services will run until approximately 2:20am, with last services departing Dockside at 2:23am and Sydney Street at 2:28am.

F23 Holman Street - Riverside

From 3pm this service will run at a higher 7-8 minute frequency (normally 15 minutes), and until approximately 2am. 

Last services depart Holman Street at 2:08am and Riverside at 2:13am. 

F24 Maritime Museum - QUT Gardens Point

Due to the closure of QUT Gardens Point ferry terminal at 3pm, the last trips will depart Maritime Museum at 2:44pm and QUT at 2:50pm. 

Free travel

From 8pm on Wednesday 31 December until first service on Thursday 1 January, travel will be free on all public transport services in South East Queensland (excluding Airtrain). 

Please do not touch on to begin a journey during this time.
