  • Public transport is the easiest and best way to travel to NRL and AFL games as South East Queensland’s first footy games of the season kick from this Friday.
  • Dedicated shuttle buses will be available for NRL and AFL supporters, with free travel to and from games for supporters with a valid game-day ticket.  
  • NRL and AFL fans are encouraged to plan their journey in advance by using the Translink app, visiting the Translink website or calling 13 12 30.

As the Queensland footy season kicks off with the first NRL and AFL games underway this weekend, Translink is getting fans on board with dedicated shuttle services to and from the games.

Three days of footy starts on 6 March, with both codes having a Friday game.

In the NRL, the reigning premiers, Brisbane Broncos start the season with a home game against the Penrith Panthers at Suncorp Stadium. Further south, in the AFL, the Gold Coast Suns will host the Geelong Cats at People First Stadium on the Gold Coast.

On Saturday, The Gabba comes alive as the 2025 premiers, Brisbane Lions face off against the Western Bulldogs.

The second NRL game of the weekend kicks off on Sunday when the Dolphins play South Sydney Rabbitohs at Suncorp Stadium.

Extra services and free travel on Translink trains, buses and trams will be available to and from games throughout the AFL and NRL season.

Head of Translink Dean Helm said it’s an exciting time of the year as footy season kicks off.

“Translink are experienced in successfully providing event transport to and from footy games.  

"In addition to Translink services, additional dedicated shuttle buses help to ensure fans don't miss a minute of the action.  

“We ask that customers have patience as we work to get you on the move safely and quickly following each event, and we encourage fans to plan their journey in advance.”

    Free travel from 3.00pm.
    Dedicated event shuttle buses starting from 5.00pm.
    Gates open 5.00pm.
  • Gold Coast Suns v Geelong Cats, People First Stadium, Friday 6 March, kick off 7.05pm
    Free travel from 3.05pm.
    Dedicated event shuttle buses starting from 4.30pm.
    Gates open 5.00pm.
  • Brisbane Lions v Western Bulldogs, The Gabba, Saturday 7 March, kick off 6.35pm
    Free travel from 2.35pm.
    Dedicated event shuttle buses starting from 4.35pm.
