- New and improved Gympie bus services will begin from Monday, November 24.
- The improvements will add 123 new weekly trips, including two new bus routes to serve growing areas, improved weekend services and longer operating hours.
- The changes have been supported in community consultation undertaken in February and March this year.
A pair of new routes will give residents of the growing suburbs of Southside and Gympie North direct access to bus services for the first time as part of a series of bus network improvements.
From Monday, November 24, an estimated 4000 additional Gympie residents will have access to public transport. Customers will benefit from more weekend services and improved connections to key locations, including Gympie Hospital and Channon Street medical precinct, Gympie Central shopping and Homemaker centres, and the Gympie Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
The Queensland Government’s Gympie bus network improvements will introduce two new bus routes, delivering 66 new trips each week, alongside 57 additional weekly trips on existing services.
The new Gympie bus network has been designed and supported through community consultation undertaken in February and March this year, and will deliver the following:
- Two new bus routes, 768 and 769, to service Southside and Gympie North;
- Additional services and extensions of existing services, 760 (extension only), 761, 762, 763, 764, 765, 766, 767 and 799 to key locations; and
- Route 769 renumbered to route 799 to operate on Saturdays only and extended to new growth areas.
During consultation, the community requested improvements for:
- Better service frequency and reliability;
- Better connections to key locations;
- Better access to public transport in general; and
- Requests for connections to other regions via bus and train.
