South East Queensland

Customers are encouraged to plan their journey to and from New Year's Eve celebrations in advance due to a track closure of southern and Cleveland train lines.

Buses will replace trains between Roma Street and Lindum stations, Roma Street and Yeerongpilly station before 6pm and Roma Street and Moorooka station after 6pm due to a Cross River Rail track closure.

Trains running between the Brisbane CBD and the Gold Coast will run via the Tennyson loop to Roma Street.

Acting Head of TransLink Graham Davis said there would be free travel on all modes of public transport across the South East Queensland network (excluding Airtrain, long distance trains and on demand services) after 8pm and additional bus and train services to help crowds disperse quickly and safely after the fireworks.

"Public transport is the cheapest and easiest way to get in and out of the Brisbane CBD and South Bank area on New Year's Eve, and there will still be plenty of services running to help patrons travel safely as we welcome in 2022," Mr Davis said.

"Travel arrangements will look a little different this year so we're asking customers to please plan your journey ahead of New Year's Eve to make sure you know which mode of transport will get you to and from your destination.

"We expect the Brisbane CBD and South Bank areas to be busy so please have some patience as we try to clear the crowds as quickly and safely as possible."

Mr Davis said additional services would run to help patrons get home quickly and safely.

“Gold Coast Light Rail services will also be increased on New Year’s Eve to cater for crowds," he said.

"All TransLink services will run to a weekday timetable with Brisbane City Council Buses running extra services for Chermside, Moggill, Carindale and Garden City/Browns Plains – meaning services every 10 minutes or better during the busiest times.

"Trains will run every 15 minutes or better on most lines after the 8.30pm fireworks and again after midnight, with the exceptions being the Beenleigh, Cleveland and Gold Coast lines due to the track closure, and the Doomben line due to low patronage.

"There will be plenty of replacement buses running between Roma Street and Lindum, and Roma Street and Yeerongpilly/ Moorooka for customers who normally travel on the Cleveland line or between Park Road and Yeerongpilly stations.

“It is also important that they plan their journey in advance and stay home if they are unwell. In line with Queensland Health advice, customers are required to wear a mask at all times when travelling on public transport unless they are under the age of 12 or have an exemption."
