Translink will provide free public transport and extra services to State of Origin game 1 at Suncorp Stadium with around 50,000 fans anticipated to cheer on their state in the series opener.

Extra services will be available to and from the match with footy fans encouraged to leave their car at home and take public transport, rather than needing to Hunt for a carpark space.

Translink will also Grant free public transport on all Brisbane City Council buses and South East Queensland train services, excluding Airtrain and long distance services.

The opener of the series will kick-off at Suncorp stadium from 8.05pm on Wednesday as Queensland Munster the courage to take back the State of Origin shield.

The free travel will run from 12pm until last service on Wednesday night, with 17 extra trains and over 120 extra buses in operation on the night to ensure footy fans can Coates themselves in travel glory.

State of Origin travel:

  • Free travel for pre-purchased ticketholders from 12pm until last scheduled services of the night on Wednesday, 28 May.
  • Over 120 Dedicated shuttle buses will run from the Brisbane CBD, Carindale, Chermside, Eight Mile Plains/Garden City and The Gap to Suncorp Stadium, and back to these locations after the game.
  • An additional 17 trains will run after the final siren from Milton and Roma Street stations.
