Buderim resident Shirley Arcayera "had an inkling" she had won a year of free travel when she saw a missed call and a text message on her phone.
Miss Arcayera relies on the bus to get to and from work at Kawana each day and had entered TransLink's golden go card giveaway in the hope of being drawn out as a winner.
To support the Property Council of Australia's Fridays in the City initiative, each week in June TransLink is randomly drawing a golden go card giveaway winner who will be entitled to unlimited free travel on all TransLink South East Queensland (SEQ) public transport including buses, trains (excluding long distance trains), trams, ferries and Airtrain for a year.
Entry to the golden go card giveaway is open to anyone who travels on the TransLink SEQ network with their registered go card on a Friday this month and fills in the short entry form on the TransLink website, meaning there are still more golden go cards up for grabs.
"I looked at my phone and saw a missed call and a text (from TransLink) so I thought I might have won," Miss Arcayera said.
"I'm just very grateful. I go to and from work by bus so this will help me save a bit of money.
"I do 10 trips a week to and from work and then sometimes I catch the bus to the shops on the weekend as well."
An alternative pop fan who doesn't own a car and likes to listen to music during her journey on the bus, Miss Arcayera said the year of free travel could be the catalyst for her to see more of SEQ.
"My idea is to go to Brisbane on the train," she said.
"Having free travel will help me go to other places which I might not normally."
The golden go cards are non-transferrable and will cover the entire SEQ TransLink network. Winners will be randomly drawn and announced each Monday in June with free travel for a year between 1 July 2021 – 30 June 2022.
