A major milestone has been achieved on Brisbane City Council's Brisbane Metro project.
The pilot metro has arrived in Brisbane and is ready for testing throughout 2022 and 2023.
What's being tested?
During the testing period, you may see the pilot metro on the South East Busway, Northern Busway, and access routes onto the busway.
The metro and its charging system are an Australian first and because of this, there are many activities within the testing and commissioning phases that need to be completed to ensure they meet the required technical specifications.
During the early stages of testing, the pilot metro will be towed. This planned activity will help ensure the pilot metro can be safely towed from the busway in the event of an emergency or incident, and is an important part of the testing process prior to the metro being driven on the busway.
When can I use the metro?
While it might be tempting to try and board the metro, it is being tested for specific activities and will not be in passenger service. Services are expected to commence in late 2024.
