The Sunshine Coast is getting 14 new bus stops, with a further six upgraded, as part of TransLink's commitment to improving accessibility to passenger transport.

The improvements will be made within the next 12 months, with new bus stops being added to existing TransLink bus routes across the Coast.

Head of Translink Matt Longland said the new bus stops were funded courtesy of a $655,000 State Government investment under TransLink's Passenger Transport Infrastructure Investment Program.

"The new bus stops, located at Parrearra, Coolum Beach, Eumundi, Little Mountain and Nambour have been identified in response to customer requests," Mr Longland said.

"Property owners adjacent to the proposed bus stops will be notified of works in advance of construction beginning."

Upgrades to the six existing bus stops can include new concrete slabs, tactile ground surfaces, shelters and J-pole bus signs installed, depending on the existing condition of the stops.

The Sunshine Coast Council has been involved in site selection and stop design, and will share the construction with TransLink.

Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson welcomed TransLink's investment to improve local bus facilities.

"The addition of these 14 new bus stops will improve the connectivity of TransLink bus routes across the Sunshine Coast. It will enable and encourage more people to utilise TransLink bus services and help achieve better transport outcomes for a healthy, smart creative region in the future," Mayor Jamieson said.

"As a result of these efforts, the capacity of the local bus network is increasing and this is in line with our region’s Integrated Transport Strategy which aims to achieve a connected, integrated, safe and efficient transport system that services and supports a rapidly growing Sunshine Coast.

"These upgrades will ensure public transport is accessible to more people in more areas on the Sunshine Coast.

"Council will continue to advocate for and support the Queensland Government in developing an improved, coordinated public transport network that provides fast, frequent and reliable bus services throughout the region."
