The Inner Northern Busway through Roma Street busway station will be temporarily closed to services, as Cross River Rail construction hits a major milestone.
Buses using the Inner Northern Busway will be temporarily diverted to on-road stops on both sides of Roma Street, adjacent to the Queensland Police Headquarters, for 15 weeks from Monday May 15.
Head of TransLink Matthew Longland said regular users of the Inner Northern Busway would be aware of the work in progress around the Roma Street busway station in preparation for the demolition of the Brisbane Transit Centre and Hotel Jen buildings.
"As demolition gets underway to allow for the construction of the new Cross River Rail station, Roma Street busway station will be temporarily closed," Mr Longland said.
"The 15-week bus diversion will be in place to allow for the demolition of the Transit Centre coach deck and outbound busway platform, as well as the construction of a new temporary busway platform.
"While we have seen a sharp decline in patronage across our public transport network due to COVID-19, this is normally a busy bus corridor with more than 2000 bus movements per day and customers should anticipate some travel delays may be experienced during the closure.
"Many passengers use Roma Street busway station to transfer to trains, and Roma Street train station will remain open and continue to operate as normal."
Mr Longland said the temporary bus stops along Roma Street would include two inbound stops (toward the city) and two outbound stops (away from the city).
"The temporary Roma Street stops will be clearly marked and fully accessible with directional signage to help people locate the correct replacement bus stop," he said.
"We anticipate customers will readily become familiar with the replacement bus stop facilities and we ask for patience as the changes are implemented."
Some customers may be able to use alternate public transport services to get to and from their destination, and the TransLink journey planner can be used to find the most suitable alternatives.
Buses are expected to resume using the Roma Street busway station when it is reopened later this year.
