TransLink regular bus and Hino Poncho bus

23 November 2017

It may be small in stature but the latest addition to the TransLink bus fleet is proving to be a big hit.

In an Australian first, a Hino Poncho joined the TransLink network on 17 July, servicing a new route between Logan City’s growing suburbs of Holmview and Beenleigh.

To date, the service has been extremely successful, with passenger numbers increasing from a first day patronage of 39 passengers per day to now carry about 100 passengers a day.

The service is approaching its 6000th passenger trip.

Head of TransLink Matthew Longland said data had shown the service was starting to develop its own peak periods on the 3.25pm and 4.25pm services.

“The main movement of passengers has been to Beenleigh Station and Holmview Shops, which is further proof this is an excellent service helping residents get to their local destinations,” Mr Longland said.

“The new Holmview route served by the Poncho opens up more opportunities for locals to access jobs or health and education services as well as making it easier to take a trip to the shops.

“We’ve had great feedback from the local community and the bus is becoming a bit of a local attraction with people travelling down to Holmview to see it in action.”

The “baby-bus” is operated by Clarks Logan on the new 567 route.

With its tight turning radius, the smaller style 18-seater bus was chosen for its ability to easily navigate the narrower residential streets of Holmview.

The Poncho has an 18-seat saloon layout plus driver, with an ultra-low floor and wheelchair ramp, allowing quick and easy access for all passengers, with an area reserved for one wheelchair or pram.

The bus is operating an hourly service, looping around Holmview, servicing the Holmview Central Shopping Centre before making the journey to Beenleigh station, allowing connections to express trains to Brisbane and Gold Coast.

It has state-of-the-art safety and comfort features, including ABS, three emergency exit points and air bag suspension with shock absorber and stabilisers.

For added safety, the large 850mm sliding door features touch sensitive technology.
