Construction of a new multi-storey car park is underway at the Mains Road Park ‘n’ Ride that will provide a total of 680 commuter parks and upgrade the facility to current design standards.
Head of TransLink Matthew Longland said the completed car park upgrade would make the Mains Road site one of Queensland’s largest park ‘n’ rides.
“The upgrade is being delivered in conjunction with the Queensland Government’s development of the State Netball Centre and will allow more people to access bus services to and from the city,” Mr Longland said.
“Park ‘n’ ride facilities are crucial in the transport network and allow people to connect to high frequency transport and avoid congestion and expensive parking.”
Mr Longland said that to enable construction activities there would be a reduction in car parking capacity.
“Unfortunately, from mid-May there will be a reduction of up to 50 per cent of available parking but this is necessary to make Mains Road will be one of the biggest park ’n’ rides in the state,” he said.
“Construction of the new multi-storey park ‘n’ ride is expected to be completed in mid-2018, weather permitting.
“Passengers looking for close alternatives during works are encouraged to use the Klumpp Road and Macgregor park ‘n’ ride sites.”
