From Monday 13 May you will notice public transport infrastructure and services in Townsville featuring the TransLink brand.
This is the first step in a staged rollout to introduce TransLink around Townsville and Magnetic Island.
Who is TransLink?
TransLink is a division of the Department of Transport and Main Roads, responsible for the provision and management of public transport services in South East Queensland (Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast), Cairns, Mackay, Toowoomba and now, Townsville and Magnetic Island.
What's the difference between TransLink and Sunbus?
TransLink partners with local operators to manage and provide public transport services, ticketing, information and infrastructure across the state.
Sunbus Townsville is the local operator in Townsville and Magnetic Island, delivering the bus services for TransLink.
TransLink will continue to work closely with Sunbus to provide urban bus services in the region.
When will customer service channels change?
Over the next three months you will transition from Sunbus customer service channels to TransLink’s customer service channels – 24/7 call centre (13 12 30), website with journey planner and the MyTransLink app.
What's in it for me?
For the first time, customers in Townsville and Magnetic Island can now access public transport information 24 hours a day via TransLink’s:
- 24/7 call centre on 13 12 30. You can call us anytime for timetable and disruption information, translation services, and tips on how to use the journey planner.
- Dedicated webpage – translink.com.au/townsville Go online to plan your journey and for up-to-date information on bus services, ticketing and fares.
- Journey planner. Available via the website, it provides door-to-door travel information to help you find the best way to get to your destination using maps and walking distances as guides.
- MyTransLink app. Lets you access the journey planner, set your favourite bus stops and customise the app for service updates that matter to you; it’s available for free from the App Store and Google Play.
The way you purchase tickets won't be changing during this first stage of the TransLink rollout. But in the coming years, we will be implementing a new smart ticketing system across all of Queensland, including Townsville and Magnetic Island.
What's different on the ground?
Infrastructure including bus stop signage, timetables and network maps will be updated across the network to provide accessible and easy-to-understand public transport information.
