The TransLink Assistance Animal Pass allows Guide Dogs and other assistance animals to ride on TransLink services. The card is valid for two years from the date of issue.

The pass is only valid on TransLink operated services. For Queensland Rail long distance train service and services operated outside of the TransLink service area, please contact the service operator directly to confirm access arrangements.

Please note: unless specified, this pass is not accepted by any organisations for access to venues or vehicles.

How to register

There are two ways to register your assistance animal to travel on TransLink services:

Contact Disability Services to certify your dog as an assistance dog under the Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dog Act (2009). Your dog will then be required to wear a coat or harness that identifies it as an assistance animal. You will need to carry an identity card giving your dog access rights to public places and public passenger vehicles. Find out more at www.disability.qld.gov.au.

Download the TransLink Assistance Animal Pass Information and Application Form (PDF, 434KB) and follow these steps:

  • Applicant or guardian to fill out sections 1,2 and 6
  • Obtain a copy of the local government registration (if applicable) and attach to the application
  • Have a health professional (e.g. registered doctor, physiotherapist, psychologist or qualified occupational therapist) fill out section 3
  • Have a professional training organisation or individual complete section 4.1 if your assistance dog was trained by a professional. If you trained your assistance animal yourself, complete section 4.2 and get a veterinarian to endorse section 4.3
  • Obtain a high-quality, colour passport-sized photograph of your assistance animal. Have the photograph signed by a recognised animal training organisation or veterinarian.
