Fare machines are available at selected train and busway stations, making it easy for you to have a valid ticket for travel.
The touch screen is easy to use and gives step-by-step instructions to help you.
Buy an adult go card (busway stations only)
- Select 'buy adult go card'.
- Top up your go card (from $5 to $200).
- Select 'pay' by cash/EFTPOS/credit card.
- Insert payment - change will not be given for cash payments.
- Collect your go card from the machine. You can also choose to receive a printed receipt.
Top up your go card
- Select 'add value' under the go card menu.
- Touch your go card to the yellow target below the screen.
- Select the amount you would like to top up (from $5 to $200).
- Select 'pay' by cash/EFTPOS/credit card.
- Insert your money or swipe your debit/credit card. Change will not be given for cash payments.
- Touch your go card to the yellow target again to confirm transaction.
- You can then choose to receive a printed receipt, or simply view your new balance on the screen.
Buy a paper ticket (at a train station)
- Select single ticket - only single tickets are available. You will need to buy a separate ticket for your return journey.
- Select your fare type (adult, concession, school or child).
- Select your destination using the map or alphabetical list.
- Insert your money.

- Select single ticket - only single tickets are available. You will need to buy a separate ticket for your return journey.
- Select your fare type (adult, concession, school or child).
- Select your zones - how to calculate the number of zones that you will travel though. Scroll left or right using the arrows if the zones you need are not visible.
- Enter the zone with the lowest number at the top of the screen.
- Entre the zone with the highest number at the bottom of the screen.
- Insert your money.
Please use correct money where possible. Change will be given as coins up to the value of $19.90 only.
Sometimes a fare machine is unable to give the correct change because it has run out of coins or there is a problem with the machine. If you don't receive the correct change, and you have the original 'refund claim receipt', you can claim a refund.
