What is the Sandgate station park 'n' ride upgrade project?
The Sandgate station park 'n' ride upgrade project is a joint Queensland Rail and TransLink initiative to improve station facilities across the network and is part of the Queensland Government's $200 million Station Upgrade Program. The upgraded Sandgate station will provide:
- an additional 100 car parking bays on the eastern side of the station, bringing the total number of car parking spaces provided by the station to 336
- improved lighting for station platforms, buildings and access paths
- improved drainage system
- a new footbridge and lifts
- bicycle storage facilities
- electronic Passenger Information Displays.
Why is it needed?
Sandgate station is one of the busiest on the Shorncliffe line and the TransLink network, with almost 2000 people movements through the station each weekday - even more when you include off-peak times and weekends. The improved park 'n' ride capacity will also cater for future growth across the network.
What are the benefits?
The upgraded Sandgate station park 'n' ride will provide customers with additional car parking facilities to accommodate growing demand and enable customers to conveniently and safely connect to a public transport service.
How will this affect me?
Services
Train services will not be affected. Queensland Rail and TransLink will keep customers informed well in advance. During construction, some sections of the existing car park may be closed to public access to provide a safe environment for the construction and customers.
Construction
During construction, there may be some minor changes to pedestrian and vehicular access to the station park 'n' ride off Curlew Street only. Park 'n' ride areas off Towner Street, Knox Street and Rainbow Street will not be affected.
We thank you for your patience and cooperation during these important construction works.
