What is the North Lakes station project?

The new North Lakes station is part of TransLink's $48 million Station Upgrade Program.

The new station will provide:

  • a bus interchange with room for six buses
  • comfortable waiting environment with sheltered seating, security cameras and lighting
  • a drop-off and pick-up area for passengers - known as kiss 'n' ride
  • convenient pedestrian links to the town centre including nearby Westfield Shopping Centre
  • improved access for cyclists including secure bicycle storage
  • complementary landscaping.

The new North Lakes station has been designed in accordance with TransLink's Public Transport Infrastructure Manual (PTIM) and the North Lakes Master Plan.

Why is it needed?

The Westfield North Lakes Shopping Centre in North Lakes serves as a central hub for the North Lakes community.

North Lakes currently has a population of 8,000 residents. Once development has finished, the area is estimated to house around 20,000 people and create some 13,000 employment opportunities.

The new bus station is being delivered to service the growing residential and retail needs of the area.

What are the benefits?

This new bus station will help to:

  • service the new urban growth area of North Lakes, providing residents, shopping centre staff and other employees safe and convenient access to regular public transport options
  • reduce traffic congestion around North Lakes Shopping Centre - 1 full bus = 40 fewer cars on the road
  • enable easy and convenient interchange to other bus services for people travelling to Petrie station or Redcliffe
  • reduce parking demand on local streets near bus stops
  • proactively provide for North Lakes' growing residential and business community and subsequent future transport demands.

How will this affect me?

Services

There may be some minor changes to bus services in the area when the bus station opens.

We will always inform you well in advance of any changes through this website and advertising in local papers.

Bus services will continue to operate as normal during construction

Traffic

At the time of construction, signage and traffic controllers will direct road users around the works as required. We aim to keep disruptions to a minimum where possible.

Construction

During construction, some noise and dust can be expected. Changes to road conditions, including lane closures and speed reductions, mnay be required to ensure the saftey of workers and the community.
