Public transport in the Redlands will receive a welcome boost with two new bus stations to be built at Redland Bay and Victoria Point.
Assistant Minister for Public Transport Steve Minnikin said the bus stations at Redland Bay and Victoria Point would provide seamless integration for customers travelling between the mainland and Moreton Bay islands.
"The upgrade from the current bus stop to a bus station at Victoria Point, as part of Redland City Council's master plan for the area, will provide residents, commuters, barge staff and tourists with improved facilities, particularly for people with mobility impairments," Mr Minnikin said.
The station's unique coastal environment has been incorporated into the initial concept design, including the materials to be used for construction and views from the passenger waiting areas.
The concept plan is now available to view at translink.com.au/project and information sessions will be held in Victoria Point on 19 and 21 July to provide an opportunity for community members to review the plan and speak to the project team. Construction at Victoria Point is due to start in mid-2013.
Member for Redlands Peter Dowling said the nearby Redland Bay Marina bus station, is underway, with the community invited to view and provide feedback on the latest station concept design at information sessions to be held next month.
"A lot of hard work has gone into producing a concept that reflects the desires of the Southern Moreton Bay Island communities," Mr Dowling said.
"We have incorporated community feedback from the local council into the design, which was collected during consultation for the Southern Moreton Bay Island Integrated Local Transport Plan in 2010/11."
"Due to the station's unique coastal environment it was essential that the design of the station and the materials to be used integrate with the natural beauty of the area and maintain views.
"The concept plan features a kiosk where passengers will be able to sit and relax while interchanging between services as well as improved lighting, security, pedestrian links, passenger pick-up and drop-off areas and a ticket office with layover facilities for buses."
The latest station concept design can be viewed at Shop 5 Red C Plaza, 165-171 Broadwater Terrace Redland Bay (across the road from the Redland Bay Hotel) on Thursday 12 July and Saturday 14 July from 10am to 2pm. Members of the project team will be on hand to provide more information and answer questions.
The concept designs can also be viewed at Peter Dowling's electorate office based at 11-27 Bunker Road, Victoria Point.
Key features of the Victoria Point station include:

- improved pedestrian access, lighting and security cameras with 24-hour video recording
