TransLink's green helpers will be out and about this O-week as students return to the public transport network.

Each year there are more than 12 million student trips on public transport to universities across South East Queensland, with many students travelling new routes for the first time at the start of the new semester.

The green-shirted Customer Liaison Officers (CLOs) are regularly on hand across the TransLink network, assisting new users, and explaining new services or upcoming service changes.

TransLink's Acting CEO, Matt Longland said CLOs performed a vital role across the TransLink network.

"We are continually improving public transport services and it is important to explain those changes ot the cusotmers who will benefit from the improvements," said Mr Longland.

"Although we use our website, advertising, onsite signage and the media where possible to inform people about changes, it is the CLOs who can speak directly to the passengers who need to know what is happening to their services."

Mr Longland said it is not just service changes where CLOs assist customers.

"Events such as O-week at universities let us go out and speak directly to new students to assist them with route information or how to access public transport information on our website.

"This is not just about timetables; many students will be new to South East Queensland or be relying on public transport for the first time, and a CLO can take them through how to use a go card and how to get the best value from using public transport.

"The role description for a CLO states the ideal candidate should 'be an enthusiastic and approachable team player' and I think that typifies our team of people in the green shirts," he said.
